This Fall LORAC introduced a new line called Pro. It features a Pro eye shadow palette (review coming soon), Pro Cream Eyeliner (love!), Blush Cheek Stains and a Nude Gloss Duo. Being somewhat of a mascara maven I’m always willing to try a new brand or formula. Bring it on! It’s rumored that mascara sales generate about $5 billion a year, hence all the new formulas on the market.
Statistics aside, on my newest mascara test drive I took LORAC Pro Mascara ($23) for a spin. As a mascara maven, I have some very strict criteria a new mascara must meet. It must NOT flake, smudge, clump or dry out my lashes. It SHOULD lengthen, thicken, deliver dramatic bat-worthy lashes and take 10 lbs. off my hips, thighs and butt. Alright maybe the last requirement is optional.
The brush on this mascara is cone-shaped and much bigger than I expected. The only other cone-shaped brush I’ve tried is Doll Lashes from Lancome and that brush is not nearly as big and wide. The cone shape is designed to get those pesky tiny lashes on the inner corners as well the middle and then “fan” the lashes on the end. I found it to be a bit unwieldy and too large to accomplish the task at hand. Yes, the small end of the wand does get the lashes on the inner corner but it is hard to position the brush to get all the lashes in one swipe. I couldn’t do it well anyway.
LORAC Pro Mascara fulfilled most of my needs—
As you can see LORAC Pro Mascara does a good job of separating the lashes and it doesn’t flake or smudge. It also does well lengthening–where I found it lacking was in the thickening department. This is two coats– I would have liked to apply multiple coats to get more thickness but then I got clumps. That being said, I like big, bold lashes while some people prefer a more natural look.
Bottom Line: A decent mascara if you are looking for a more natural, fluffy look. The formula is good, the price mid-range. The brush takes some getting used to.
